CAD design
Design and production drawings for metal products
From an idea or sketch we prepare a 3D model and production drawings tailored to laser cutting, bending, welding and powder coating – designed to be easy to manufacture, reliable and economical in series.
- 3D + 2DSTEP, DXF, DWG, PDF
- DFMdesign for manufacturing
- From a sketchor an existing product
- For seriesfixtures and joints
Design for manufacturing (DFM), not just a drawing
A good-looking 3D model does not guarantee cheap, stable production. We consider sheet format, bend radii, welding access, distortion and coating hang points from the start – the result is a product that can be made without repeated corrections.
What we prepare
| Deliverable | Format | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 3D model | STEP, IGES | visualisation, fit check, production |
| Flat patterns | DXF | laser cutting and bending |
| Production drawings | PDF, DWG | dimensions, tolerances, welds, finish |
| Assembly drawings | structure and bill of materials | |
| DFM notes | PDF / email | simplifications and cost reduction |
Design choices that reduce cost
- Tab-and-slot joints – parts locate without complex fixtures
- Standard sheet thicknesses and profiles – faster material supply
- Bends instead of welds where possible
- Fewer parts by combining them into one flat pattern
- Drain and hanging holes suitable for coating
- Tolerances only where functionally necessary

Design for manufacturing (CAD and DFM)
Design for manufacturing is the preparation of a 3D model, flat patterns and production drawings from an idea, sketch or existing product, taking real production technologies into account. Alumnita engineers apply DFM principles so that the design suits laser cutting, bending, welding and powder coating.
DFM reduces the number of operations, material use and the risk of rework – for example, tab-and-slot joints let parts locate without fixtures, and correct bend radii and gaps ensure repeatable geometry. Documentation is delivered in STEP, IGES, DXF, DWG and PDF and becomes the basis for prototypes and series production.
